What we talk about

Many of us came to Canada to build a better life for our families. What we found was often different from what we expected. Degrees and years of experience that suddenly needed “Canadian experience.” Long hours to pay the rent here while supporting family back home. Children growing up in a culture different from the one we brought with us.

These experiences shape how parents, children, and grandparents see each other. Children may remember parents who were always at work. Parents may see children who adapted faster than they could. These sessions make room for every side.

Come share your own experience: what you expected, what you found, and what it has meant to live in two worlds. Hearing each other is a reminder that none of us went through it alone.

What happens at a session

Each session starts with 45 minutes of gentle stretching and low-impact movement, led by a qualified instructor. It is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Go at your own pace, and modify or sit out anything you need to.

Then we sit down together over an African meal for 45 minutes of personal stories and conversation. Connect, listen, maybe share a laugh or two, and learn from each other’s experiences.
