About CCRBH
Our Story
CCRBH is a Black-led, Toronto-based nonprofit building community resilience across Canada. We work with youth, women, seniors, newcomers, and underserved residents to build practical skills, strengthen social ties, and prepare for crises—so everyone has a fair chance to thrive.
Our founder spent 20 years in the community sector watching the same problems cycle back: seniors losing benefits because forms moved online, families missing Disability Tax Credits, people isolated at home with no community connections.
The problems were different but connected. You can’t focus on health if you’re stressed about money. You can’t learn digital skills if you’re isolated.
So in July 2024, we brought people together—youth in their 20s, elders in their 80s, everyone in between. All with lived experience navigating these barriers. We said: what if we built something that addressed all of this at once?
That’s CCRBH.
Each program at CCRBH is built by people who've lived the barriers we're addressing—whether it's figuring out government portals, navigating unmanned kiosks at transit stations and hospitals, or managing mental health challenges. We're not studying community challenges from the outside. We're neighbors solving problems together.

Mission & Values
Equip people with practical skills, trusted connections, and culturally safe support to handle life’s challenges and lead change in their communities.
Equip community members with the knowledge, connections, and confidence to navigate life’s challenges and lead change where they live.
Equity
We address systemic barriers and center the most marginalized.
Dignity
Everyone deserves respect, independence, and choice in accessing services.
Trust
We earn confidence through culturally safe, barrier-free delivery.
Resilience
We build capacity to navigate change and thrive through challenges.
Community
Belonging and peer connection are the foundation of lasting strength.
What We Do
Five Pillars
Economic Agency: Budgeting, banking, benefits, and consumer rights.
Social Connections: Mentorship, peer groups, and intergenerational circles.
Digital Access: Hands-on help with portals (healthcare, CRA, banking), fraud/scam basics, and privacy.
Health & Wellness: Culturally safe wellness, food access, and warm referrals.
Preparedness & Safety: Everyday readiness for heat/cold, outages, storms, and health events.
What We've Delivered
We incorporated in July 2024 and spent our first 10 months building our foundation—recruiting volunteers, developing program models, and establishing partnerships with credentialed subject matter experts.
We began delivering programs in May 2025:
Health & Wellness workshops: Sessions on nutrition, diabetes and dementia. Led by Registered Dietitians and Registered Practical Nurses.
Seniors Circle: 13 sessions with 9-15 regular attendees forming sustained friendships and mutual support networks.
One-on-one support: Helping community members navigate GIS, Disability Tax Credits, and CRA portals.
What Makes Us Different
Most organizations focus on one area—health, or finances, or digital access. We work on all of it because that’s how life actually works. The grandmother who can’t access OAS online probably also needs to know about phone scams, and her isolation is affecting her health, and she’d benefit from connecting with others who’ve figured this out.
We’re the only organization in the GTA integrating all five resilience pillars—Economic Agency, Social Connections, Digital Inclusion, Health & Wellness, Preparedness & Safety—under one roof, with Black-led, lived-experience leadership.
That’s not marketing language. That’s our actual structure.
